Sometimes it feels like everyone is talking about Netflix… That watching live TV is something of the past! Running to the kettle in the ad breaks, being home for 7:30pm to watch your favourite show each night… It has all changed! But that got us thinking, are the traditional getting left behind? With this in mind, we had a look at what was available on Netflix and put together a list of our favourites.
For anyone unsure, Netflix is a streaming service that offers a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, films, documentaries and more. This all comes at the cost of a monthly subscription.

The Bucket List
Featuring Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. A billionaire and a car mechanic are complete strangers until fate lands them sharing a hospital room. The two find they have two things in common: firstly, a need to come to terms with who they are and what they have done with their lives. Secondly, and a desire to complete a bucket list. Ignoring their doctor’s advice, the men leave the hospital and set out on the adventure of a lifetime.
The Theory of Everything
This award-winning European film visits the incredible story of Stephen Hawking. Starting in the 1960s, Cambridge University student Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) falls in love with Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones). At 21, Hawking learns that he has a Motor Neuron disease and a shortly predicted lifespan. With Jane, Hawking begins an ambitious study of time. He and Jane terrible odds and break new ground in the fields of medicine and science, achieving more than either could hope to imagine.
West Side Story
A classic shown on Broadway, TV screens, outdoor cinemas… West Side Story is a musical in which a modern-day Romeo and Juliet are involved in New York street gangs. Battling on the harsh streets of the upper west side, two gangs fight for control of the turf. The situation becomes complicated when a gang member falls in love with a rival’s sister.

Monty Don’s Italian Gardens
Perfect for admirers of the landscape, Netflix now presents Monty Don’s Italian Landscape. This captures Monty Don as he begins his grand tour of Italy’s magnificent gardens in Rome. You will also find a French series where Monty Don visits some of the most famous and interesting gardens of France.
The Big Family Cooking Showdown
This is a British television cooking competition. Each week, two teams of three family members compete in three challenges, judged by Michelin star chef Giorgio Locatelli and cookery teacher Rosemary Shrager. The winners in each of eight heats will move on to a series of further competitions, until a winner is selected.
The Crown
The Crown traces Elizabeth’s (Claire Foy) life from her marriage to Prince Philip (Matt Smith) in 1947 to the present day, digging into the web of agendas and alliances the Queen must navigate. Heavy on political intrigue, The Crown is sure to satisfy viewers who appreciate Machiavellian television, as well as those who love the decor of TV shows like Downton Abbey. However, the show also has a deeply intimate side, in that it examines Elizabeth’s personal relationships and the toll exacted by her duties as Queen.
