Rivervue Bomber Tragics - Hall of Fame list is growing
You may have heard us talk about the "RBT" or commonly known as the Rivervue Bomber Tragics. It's a group of Rivervue residents who all share a passion for football. While many proudly support the red and black Bombers, other members barrack for the Doggies, Magpies, Kangaroos and plenty of other AFL teams too.
More than anything, the RBT is a social group — a place where people come together to celebrate a shared love of the game, the traditions around it, and the teams they’ve supported through thick and thin.
Over the last few seasons, the RBT has welcomed some very special guests, including:
-
Kevin Sheedy - Hall of Fame inductee
-
Barry Capuano - Bombers’ legend
-
Simon Madden - local legend who played 19 seasons with Essendon
-
Natalie Wood - Senior Coach of the AFLW team
-
Barbara Cullen OAM - AFL historian and author of Harder Than Football. VFL Players in the Times of War
-
Dr Brendan de Morton - Senior Club Doctor at Essendon FC
-
Barry Besanko - former Essendon player
These football greats shared their stories, insights and passion for the game, through intimate talks at the Rivervue Community Centre.
This week, we were proud to have six current players from the Essendon Football Club (AFL & AFLW teams) visit Rivervue.
- Andy McGrath - Bomber Captain
- Darcy Parish
- Archer Day-Wicks
- Angus Clarke
- Madison Prespakis
- Steph Cain
The players engaged in a question-and-answer panel, sharing details about their challenges in football, how they came to be at Essendon, their childhood memories of the game and even what life after football will look like. Around 90 guests attended the RBT event, taking selfies, and getting memorabilia signed by the players.
We would like to thank the Essendon Football Club and the players for joining us on the day. Go Bombers!
We can't wait for the next RBT event in June. Essendon Football legend Mark Bolton will be joining us at Rivevue. Mark played 124 games for Essendon from 1998-2007. Mark was a Director for Ladder, a not-for-profit organisation based in London, focused on enabling homeless youth to find housing, jobs and to pursue meaningful lives. Mark returned from London in 2024 to take up the role of Chief Strategy Officer for Essendon.
This is going to be an interesting talk, one you won't want to miss.
